Paths Through Snow

The vision that I had going into this landscape series was to capture the way that paths and roads and footprints cut through a winter scene. I ended up focusing on photos that I took within Phalen Park. I made these photos on a morning that the park was rolling with fog, and the sun was just rising. The light and the fog both helped me to emphasize the paths. The final part for this project was the repeating human elements. The mittens and the hat, both yellow. We see the hat and mittens each prominently visible in two photos. The 5th photo, of the bridge from afar, the mittens rest on the rail of the bridge. In this final image, they are there, but not the focus of the photograph. I feel this final photo helps tie the series together. I feel like I succeeded in capturing the essence of winter that I set out to find.
